There Is No Secret To Good Mlm Research - Lie Number Six Is The Worst Of Them All!
Of all the network marketing lies out there roaming the face of this industry, lie number six has got to be the biggest deception of them all.
The sixth lie goes like this: “You just don’t have enough belief!” AHHHH! Excuse me?! What do you mean I don’t have “enough belief”?
I have all the belief in the world that I if I don’t do something constructive to pay the increasing pile of bills on my desk, I will be in a heap of trouble.
I also believe that good hard work keeps our economy going and no amount of “feel good, just believe that your bank account is going to grow, visualize greatness” mumbo-jumblo is EVER going to get me to the place of success I want to accomplish for my life.
After about 3 weeks of hearing this kind of “inspirational motivation” from my first MLM, I was ready to throw-up. I started wondering if I had joined a cult! But then reality set in, and after researching I came to realize this type of “positive thinking” is permeating the MLM industry.
Let’s be honest, ladies and gentlemen. Do you really think that if you plaster enough pictures of all the things you want to gain in life all over your house, car and dog, that you will then be successful? Do you really think there is some kind of magical road to mega income that appears if you make sure you attend every meeting and national rally?
Please tell me you are shaking your head, “No!”
So why do our uplines practically threaten us if we don’t listen to this week’s motivational guru? Doesn’t it make more sense to invest your time into learning good sales and marketing strategies, rather than chant “you can do it” mantras?
I know owning your own business is different and even harder than working a J.O.B. In network marketing, you don’t bring in money right away. We have to build the foundation first and sow those seeds before we see our harvest.
But please understand, running a successful MLM business doesn’t have to be as hard as most people think. In fact, if you’ve been working hard at your MLM for more than 3 years and are not seeing good cashflow, something is not right. You are probably tackling your business with a shovel when you should really be using a bulldozer.
If after doing your network marketing research, you haven’t found an efficient marketing system to run your business, you are going to have to work harder and longer with very little results.
I like what Ann Sieg says in her book, “The Seven Great Lies of Network Marketing”: “When you’re using the right tools for the job…you’re seeing steady, consistent progress and things are trucking along smoothly …motivation becomes almost an afterthought.”
Ms. Sieg became incredibly successful at network marketing when she stopped worrying about whether or not she had enough belief and started focusing on the “real nuts and bolts of how to market a business. Which is this: Find the people who’re looking for what you have, use an effective marketing system to automatically sell to them for you, and then spend your time working with the best ones.”
Don’t get me wrong. Motivation and encouraging words definitely have their place. In fact, my marketing coach encouraged me this morning in an email I received from him saying what a good job I’ve been doing. That really blessed me and gave me a little lift.
Also, it’s very important to have goals, financial or otherwise. There’s a well-known verse that says, “without a vision, people perish.” But if you are relying heavily on encouraging words and pie-in-the-sky motivational speeches, you will never experience the kind of success you could have.
Listening to an inspirational CD might make you feel good for a few days, but sooner or later reality will creep back in. Careful network marketing research will reveal that you can actually run a successful MLM without motivational hype, but you cannot reach your goals without a good marketing system.
